Damaged Witfield streetlights finally fixed

“The lights were fixed, and we will continue to monitor the area as it is a hot spot for vandalism,” said Gadebe

The streetlights on Knights Street were reported to have been out of order for a long time, making residents of Witfield feel unsafe.
A concerned resident of the area, Gerrie Meyer, complained that he had for months been fighting to get the problem attended to, but no one from the municipality came forward to help.
He resorted to approaching the Advertiser for assistance.
The metro was approached for comment and a few days letter, the metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said a team from the electricity department was dispatched to Knights Street where they found that five of the lights were out due to vandalism.
“The lights were fixed, and we will continue to monitor the area as it is a hot spot for vandalism,” said Gadebe.
Before lighting was restored on the street, the Advertiser received a letter from Meyer about a pothole, damaged stormwater drain and streetlights on Knights Street.
Letter of complaint
I am really hoping that you could assist in resolving an issue that I have been trying to get sorted with the local municipality for months and even before Covid-19 reared its ugly head.
In Knights Street, in front of a complex, there is a long pothole and after many many emails from my side this pothole has not been repaired. The pothole is right in front on the main entrance and as cars enter or leave they get damaged. The stormwater drains in the area as well as streetlights are of no existence in this part of Witfield.
I have been in contact with the DA councillor from the area and he has done his utmost to assist but the parties that are responsible for this just don’t care about the state of the infrastructure of our suburbs.
My request is that you open a section for letters regarding the non-compliance of the ANC-led councils. Something or someone seriously needs to name and shame these irresponsible councillors.

Please please assist.
Gerrie Meyer
