Ekurhuleni consultants arrested for extortion

The employees, were busted after obtaining money by extortion from personnel of one of the factories which owes the municipality thousands of rands for services rendered by the City

EMPD Compliance-Loss Control and Investigation Unit officers arrested two Ekurhuleni metro private consultants for allegedly extorting money from Boksburg residents who owe the City for municipal services.
According to EMPD spokesperson, Kobeli Mokheseng, the two men, impersonating City of Ekurhuleni employees, were busted after obtaining money by extortion from personnel of one of the factories which owes the municipality thousands of rands for services rendered by the City.
“The men were cornered counting R800 notes extorted from the company’s personnel, in order for them to look the other way.
“The EMPD officers discovered the two, who work as private consultants, are supposed to serve warning letters (instructed by the City) of terminating services to people behind with payments and not to blackmail and solicit bribes from them.
“Further investigations are underway as it is also believed that the detained suspects unlawfully charge their victims R1 000 for a house and R2 000 for a company owing the CoE.
“Their white Opel Astra sedan used in commission of a crime was impounded and booked-in at the police station under SAPS 13 file.
“The apprehended workers are expected to appear at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.”
