It’s been a good athletics year – Strydom

BAC multiple award winner gracious in victory

Boksburg Athletic Club’s road running captain Wynand Strydom has expressed gratitude in what has been a great year for him on the athletics front.

Strydom was named as the club’s Male Road Runner of the Year, Men’s Marathon Runner 2020 and Men’s Veteran Road Runner 2020 during the club’s AGM held at the Boksburg City Stadium in late October.

On winning the three prestigious accolades, the now eight-time Men’s Veteran Road Runner said: “It’s a big privilege. It has been great to win these awards because it was a difficult year,” he said, before picking his biggest accolade out of the three.

“The Male Road Runner of the year was the best to win because the club has so much talent,” explained Strydom, who was also voted as the club’s road running captain for the first time during the meeting.

Having won all the big awards there was to win from the club, the Advertiser asked him if there’s anything more to keep him motivated. He said: “My wife motivates me and she’s very supportive. She makes sure that I stay motivated. I have 26 Comrades [marathon] finishes and 26 Comrades silver medals. I’d like to get more so that also keeps me motivated.”

The Men’s Veteran Road Runner accolade was Strydom’s eighth consecutive one at the club, with the first one coming in in 2013.
