Man killed in ‘illegal gold deal gone bad’

The police launched an intelligence-driven operation, which led to the arrest of the suspected killer

Police in Reiger Park are investigating a murder after a man was killed in what police believe was an illegal gold deal that went wrong.
According to Reiger Park SAPS acting spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, on November 4, police were called to the scene in Yulana informal settlement where they found the body of a man.
He had suffered head injuries, and paramedics certified him dead on the scene.
“He was identified as 26-year-old Zimbabwean national Prince Indlela. It seems he had a fight with a fellow countryman over a share of the proceeds gained through their illegal mining of gold,” explained Phathela.

The police then launched an intelligence-driven operation, which led to the arrest of a Zimbabwean national.
He was charged with murder and is expected to appear in court soon.
Motaung said more arrests are imminent.
Lt Col Eugene Roets of Reiger Park SAPS expressed his shock at the killing and urged members of the public to refrain from resorting to violence when they don’t see eye to eye.
