Cop to reappear in court for bail application

Officer set to learn his fate on bail application

The police officer accused of allegedly assaulting Reiger Park Pick n Pay owner Douglas Cassell will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on October 22.

The officer, who is charged with assault with intention to commit grievous bodily harm, assault with threats and handling of a firearm under the influence, made his first appearance in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on October 16 before the case was postponed to this Thursday for a formal bail application.

He has since been remanded to the Primrose Police Station, where he is in custody until his next appearance.
The officer was arrested on October 12 after video footage showed him brutally attacking Cassell.
According to the victim, the incident was triggered after the officer went to the store and demanded footage of his missing son, who has since been found.
