Have your will drawn up free this month

A will presents great benefits as it enables you to specify how you wish for your assets to be distributed and how you wish for your children to be taken care of

There is often a misconception in our society that a will is only required in the case of the wealthy.

As part of the annual National Wills Week, Malherbe Rigg and Ranwell Attorneys (MRR) will support Wills Week from October 26 to October 30.

This is an initiative which offers members of the public the opportunity to have their wills drawn up at no cost, ensuring their last wishes are recorded correctly and loved ones are well provided for.

A discussion about death is without any doubt, one of the most difficult conversations to have. It is uncomfortable and unsettling to have to plan for such an unannounced occurrence by way of drafting a will.

However, it is necessary to attend thereto, to ensure your loved ones are left with peace of mind and the ability to focus on grieving your death without the hassle of dealing with unnecessary squabbles with relatives, non-relatives and even attorneys.

In addition, the administration of your estate will be greatly expedited. A will presents great benefits as it enables you to specify how you wish for your assets to be distributed and how you wish for your children to be taken care of.  A trustworthy guardian may be appointed in the will for this purpose.

Lastly, a will enables one to give back to society by way of an honourable gesture such as allocating a portion of the estate to an orphanage, elderly’s care facility, animal shelter, in fact, any cause dear to them.

A wish such as this cannot be effected without a will. Although you have the option of drawing up a will yourself, it is highly advisable to have a person with the necessary expertise and legal knowledge, draw up your will.

Members of the public can visit the offices of MRR during National Wills Week (October 26 to October 30) and take advantage of the opportunity to have a will drafted free of charge.
