Protest: Drivers warned to be vigilant while driving along Commissioner and Elsburg roads

Road users are advised to rather make use of alternative routes

The City of Ekurhuleni cautions motorists to remain extra vigilant while driving along Commissioner and Elsburg roads in Ramaphosa, where residents blocked the roads with stones and other burning objects on September 30.

Although the roads are open, motorists are still advised to drive cautiously or rather avoid the area near the intersection of the two roads.

There are no signs of protesters onsite, but it’s believed that the roads have been barricaded by residents of the nearby Tokyo Sexwale informal settlement, who have for weeks been staging intermittent protests over ‘poor’ service delivery in their area.

Law-enforcement officers are closely monitoring the area.
