Boksburg residents celebrate Heritage Day

Attendees showcased their cultural clothing and traditions while also learning more about each other’s diversity

The sun came out to play in Boksburg on September 24 as Boksburg residents dressed in bright and colourful traditional outfits to celebrate Heritage Day.

The Advertiser spotted locals at the Dawn Park Shopping Centre wearing traditional clothing which proudly represented the Xhosa, Tsonga, Swati, Indian and Sesotho cultures.

One of the people at the centre, Mlungisi Mchunu, who wore his IsiZulu attire, said Heritage Day means a lot to him because it’s a special day where he gets to wear his traditional attire in order to showcase his traditional roots to his friends and the public.

Proudly wearing her isiZulu traditional attire is Nomsa Maketha from Villa Liza.

Meanwhile, in Windmill Park young people from the area celebrated the day in a youthful way.

Members from the Ubizo Entertaiment Production hosted a show in the area to celebrate South Africa’s diverse heritage, beliefs and cultures.

The show took place at Kota2Lunch from 1pm until 5pm.

Thanking the audience during the conclusion of their drama during the cultural event which took place at Kota2Lunch are some of the cast members from Ubizo production.

Attendees showcased their cultural clothing and traditions while also learning more about each other’s diversity.

According to one of the organisers of the event, Mpho Vilakazi, the event was aimed at promoting and preserving culture and identity within young people so they don’t forget who they are and where they come from.

About 22 acts took to the stage to showcase their dance moves, drama, poetry, comedy and music talents to their friends and family who attended the event.

Excited attendees spotted at the cultural heritage event is Ntando Mbuyisa and Seipati Magudulela.
Mbuso Magwaza was the MC during the colourful event.
