Proteas return to training

The players will be allowed to do group training for the first time since the Proteas' cancelled tour of India in early March

The country’s cricket controlling body, Cricket South Africa (CSA), has confirmed that the men’s national cricket side, the Proteas, have finally returned to full training following the recent announcement by the Department of Sports.

This will see players get together in small numbers at the nearest franchise where they will be required to respect strict safety rules provided by the CSA committee.

CSA chief medical officer Dr Shuaib Manjra confirmed that the governing body is committed to honouring the regulations set out by the government to ensure a safe return to action.

“We engaged with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) which was comfortable with our protocols and responses to their queries for further details in some respects,” he said.

“Our prevention programme, besides the regular testing of players and support staff, is predicated on personal hygiene measures and creating a sanitised ecosystem. Covid-19 compliance managers at each venue have assumed responsibility to ensure all the elements of the protocol are implemented,” said Manjra.
