N12 East reopened after truck hits pedestrian and loses its load near Atlas Road off-ramp

The highway was momentarily closed for paramedics to assess the man, who is believed to be in his early 40s, before transporting him to hospital.

A man was left critically injured after being knocked by a truck on the N12 highway near the Atlas Road off-ramp earlier today.

“We received the call around 1.18pm about the incident and when we reached the scene, we found the man under the 18-wheeler truck,” said ER24 ALS paramedic and Benoni Manager, Gerhardt Dyssel.

“According to the truck driver, the man ran across the highway and the driver was unable to swerve in time to avoid knocking him.”

“The patient required Advanced Life Support treatment and was first stablised before being transported by our ambulance to Tambo Memorial Hospital,” Dyssel said.
