Woman killed in two-truck collision on R554
The Jaws of Life had to be used to free and recover the injured from the wreckage
A female passenger lost herlife when the truck she was travelling in was involved in a collision with another truck near the intersection of the R554 and Trichardts Road on April 5.

The driver and another male passenger were hospitalised in critical trauma condition while the driver of the second truck escaped without injuries.
According to Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson William Ntladi, when the emergency services rescue teams from Boksburg Central and Vosloorus fire stations responded to the scene they found three patients trapped inside the cab of one of the trucks.
“Specialised hydraulic rescue tools had to be used to free and recover the injured from the wreckage. The paramedics rendered necessary pre-hospital medical treatment to all patients. The female patient suffered intense upper body and head injuries and was declared dead on the scene,” Ntladi said.
Ntladi said the other two male patients who sustained critical head and chest injuries had to flown to Union Hospital by two medical helicopters for further medical care.
“It is alleged that both trucks were driving in the same direction prior to the crash. One of the trucks drove into the back of the other, which was slowing down as it approached a red traffic light,” Ntladi said.
The scene was handed over to the relevant officials for further investigations. The road had to be closed for the entire duration of the rescue operations.
