EMPD officers arrest Villa Liza couple found in possession of explosives

The officers also found false registration plates, pairs of gloves, a hammer, makhamisa and a hacksaw in the couple's bedroom.

The EMPD Specialised Task Team and Dawn Park SAPS members apprehended a couple in Villa Liza after uncovering house breaking implements and explosives following a tip-off on April 10.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, at 3.15pm the EMPD Specialised Task Team and Dawn Park SAPS members patrolling the area with a mandate to enforce the lockdown uncovered house breaking implements and explosives in a residential area.

“The law enforcement team, expecting to find liquor and cigarettes being sold unlawfully during the lockdown, unexpectedly found five explosives, four liters of an unknown liquid chemical, two false registration plates, four pairs of gloves, a hammer, makhamisa and a hacksaw in a couple’s bedroom,” said Mokheseng.

Since there was blood spatter on the bedroom walls, SAPS detectives with the explosives units were summoned to the crime scene and thorough investigations were conducted.

He added that possession of explosives and house breaking implement charges were registered at the Dawn Park Police Station, adding the arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court soon.
