Covid-19: 2021 World Baseball Classic qualification postponed

The winners and runners-up of each of the two tournaments would’ve qualified for the 2021 World Baseball Classic.

The 2021 World Baseball Classic qualifiers that were scheduled to take place this month in Arizona, USA, have been postponed until further notice.

South African and Boksburg Cardinals baseball player Kieran Cree, who was included in the national side that was to feature in the qualifiers, confirmed the setback.

“We all got sent home,” said the pitcher.

“We stayed there for five days and the day before we started, everyone was sent back.”

The qualifying round consisted of two tournaments which were supposed to be played by six teams each. The first tournament, which SA was supposed to compete in, would’ve been held from March 12 to 17 and the second from March 20 to 25.
