Cook and Culture: Keeping things festive

With St Patrick’s Day coming up and the holiday’s on the horizon or already here for some, here are a few tricks and tips to keep things festive and green.

Pro Tip

Completing one task at a time with all your attention is more effective. Doing more than one thing at a time may seem like the best way to get all of your tasks done, but it can hurt your productivity. Multi-tasking is not productive or focused, and you might waste time.

Digital

“Attention is rare, and attention is extremely valuable” – Mike Follet, MD of Lumen, recently researched in SA, measuring attention that local newspapers receive using eye-tracking technology, and the results are astounding. Check out some links on the online blog.

Food For Thought

You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy St Patrick’s Day. Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a cultural and religious celebration held on March 17, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. In most countries, though, it is just a day to celebrate friends, and to have fun and enjoy yourself.

Green Green Flapjacks

Surprise the family with flapjacks and all green goodies for toppings on St Paddy’s Day. Busy morning schedule? No problem, use a flapjack pre-mix and just add three drops of green food colouring to the mix.

Some green topping ideas:

  • Peppermint chocolate
  • Green speckled eggs
  • Green desiccated coconut (add a drop of food colouring and mix)
  • Green vermicelli
  • Green apples
  • Sugar (add a drop of food colouring and mix)
  • Pistachios
  • Golden syrup or honey
