Bloem, White lift Bedford past Boksburg in premier league tussle

“At the moment, we are doing one discipline correct and failing on the other so we just need to do both correctly on the day.” - Boksburg skipper

Bedfordview pair JP Bloem and Tyrone White led Bedfordview’s fight back when they visited Prince George Park for their Eastern Cricket Premier League clash against home side the Boksburg Cricket Club on February 2.

Bloem, an opener for his side, scored 47 before White shared the crease with Nathan Steyn as he finished unbeaten with also 47 – cancelling out Boksburg’s Jordan Hollard’s magnificent haul of 78 which lifted Boksburg to a total of 187 after 48 overs.

Bloem’s and White’s combined effort, however, combined with better additions from their side’s fringe strikers, helped their side outlast the hosts, who, despite the defeat, put out a much-improved performance with the bat.

The visitors finished with 190/8 after 41.8 overs to edge Boksburg skipper Adam Forbes and co.

Having deciding to bat after winning the pre-match coin toss to open proceedings – Boksburg blew cold – a key aspect of the game which probably cost them the ‘W’.

It was a relatively easy outing for the away side bowlers before Hollard’s introduction, led by Steyn, who took 3/30 in nine overs of delivering – including two maidens.

Boksburg also bowled well, with three players taking multiple wickets. Hollard, who also matched-up in the bowling stakes, finished with 2/26; 1 while his teammates Matthew Hollard and Ian Crawshaw took 2/45; 2 and 2/29 respectively.

Asked for his opinion following a much-improved outing from his side – Forbes responded: “It was a good, close game. We didn’t bowl well at the start and it cost us in the end.
