Watch: Excitement, nervous smiles, tantrums on first day of school in Boksburg
Accompanied by their parents, thousands of Grade One learners headed to their respective primary schools to mark their first day of school on January 15.

The first day of the 2020 academic year kicked off to a smooth start at most of the schools in Boksburg on Wednesday, although some Grade Ones had a bit of separation anxiety, and the first day of school felt so overwhelming for them.
Emotions were evident on the faces of children who were attending their first day of school as parents left them and others could not hold back their tears, clung to their parents and sobbed uncontrollably. Others were, however, excited about the new adventure.

Clayton Theron was clearly unhappy to be left in the care of strangers and dashed down the stairs to escape from school. His father, Theo Theron, immediately approached and took his son back to the Goedehoop Primary School classroom.
Clayton Theron started to shed tears, screaming from the top of his lungs and kicking doors when his father bade him goodbye on his first day of school. His classmate Cedwin Anderson jumped into action to assist their class teacher, Rebecca Malaza, prevent Clayton from escaping.
Twin brothers Gary and Troy Azor marked their first day of school at Goudrand Primary with big smiles.
With dad (Louis Nel) in one hand and mom (Lorraine Nel) in the other, Quewin Nel arrived at Goudrand Primary to begin his first day of school. He appeared confident walking into his first day of school.
