Metro identifies transit site for Van Dyk Park Mine Quarters tenants

The metro responded by stating that if the tenants apply for housing subsidy and qualify, they will be included as beneficiaries.

The Ekurhuleni metro has identified a transit site within the project where residents of the Van Dyk Park Mine Quarters will be moved to when the housing project begins.

The project is budgeted to commence during the 2019/2020 financial year with bulk service installation.

Tenants feel they are left in the dark regarding housing development

The Advertiser recently reported that a group of people from Van Dyk Park Mine Quarters, who identified themselves as tenants, said they felt that they are being sidelined from benefiting from the housing project just because they are not landlords.

Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, shared that the development is such that if one doesn’t qualify for one option he or she can qualify for another one.

“The mining houses are occupied illegally by both the so-called landlords and tenants.”

“The houses are owned by municipality. However, should they qualify as beneficiaries on the options outlined above, with the exception of rental housing, they will obtain title deeds after completion of the proposed development,” Gadebe said.
