Metro to commence with housing development in Van Dyk Park

“The properties were previously owned by a mining company before the metro took over the land parcel for housing development.” - the metro

Residents of Van Dyk Park will soon be relocated to an identified temporary area to allow housing development to proceed.

This is according to the metro.

Residents of Van Dyk Park Mine Quarters recently submitted a petition at the Germiston Council Chambers seeking clarity about an alleged housing development set to take place in the area.

Residents demanded to know if their houses will be demolished or not.

They also highlighted that their current houses were spacious enough; hence, they didn’t want other houses or be moved elsewhere.

Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe confirmed the City will be implementing a housing project which is aimed at delivering housing units.

“The project is budgeted to commence during the 2019/2020 financial year with bulk service installation. The community is targeted to benefit from this project, which is subject to the outcome of beneficiary administration assessment,” Gadebe said.

Gadebe added that residents do not have title deeds because they are not legal owners of the properties.
