CPF initiates clean-up of field to prevent crime, cable theft

The main objective of the event was to tidy up the field so criminals can easily be spotted and could no longer hide in the bushes of the field.

The Boksburg North Sector One CPF, Mamba Security and a few community members took the initiative to clean a field on the corner of Atlasville Road and Finch Street on Sepember 14 that had become a hiding spot for cable thieves in the area.

The project started at 7am and ended at 4pm after a huge effort. The team left no stone or grass poll untouched while tidying up the field.

They picked up rubbish by hand and burnt the field. The sponsored TLB industrial machine and skips helped to make the clean-up faster and more effective.

According to René Marais, public relations officer of the Sector One CPF, a clean field will improve the general image of our community by making it look more aesthetic.

“There has been a spate of cable theft in Boksburg lately; therefore, we decided that it is time for us to stand together and do something about this problem,” said René.

“We felt the need to tidy the field up so we can prevent cable thieves and other criminals from hiding in it.Furthermore, were are also closing the trenches that were dug by thieves during previous cable theft incidents.”

She expressed her concern over illegal dumping as they found numerous items that were dumped in the field.

“During the clean-up, it was sad to see that the field is becoming an illegal dumping site, despite the dump yard being on the opposite side of the road. Illegal dumping is an unlawful act that does not only makes our community filthy, but is also creating a place for criminals to hide,” René explained.

“It is of upmost importance for the community to support projects like these as cable theft is something that affects all of us. It will be much appreciated if more community members are willing to take a stand against cable theft. We’re not doing this for our benefit, but in aid of the community.

“I’m proud of what we accomplished during the clean-up, but with more involvement from the community and sponsors for TLBs and graders, we will go much further.

Riaan van der Walt (CPF), Armand Symes (Mamba Security) and Awie Greyling (CPF) assisted in cleaning up the field in an attempt to prevent criminals from hiding in it.

“I would like to thank sponsors Craig View Veterinary Clinic, FHS and Letsatsi Hire Pty Ltd, SPAR, Ekurhuleni, ward councillor Ruhan Robinson and everybody else who contributed to the success of the day.”
