ERU, main sponsor part ways

The latest news follows ERU's exit in the Peregrine League semi-final at the hands of Vereeniging.

Valke Peregrine League giants East Rand United were dealt a big blow following the recent announcement that the club’s main sponsor in the last four years, Phakisa Holdings, will no longer be sponsoring the club.

According to East Rand United (ERU) chairperson Marius de Vos, the club received a signed letter from Phakisa Holding informing the club that the sponsor can no longer afford to support the club.

De Vos explained: “The content of the letter does not mention the loss against Vereeniging as the reason for pulling out of the club. We are in a difficult situation at this stage given the ambiguous signals given to the club by representatives of Phakisa Holdings during the course of the season.

“We have had a series of strategic sessions to plan for the next season and five years ahead. I have roped in members of the club with special expertise to draft a business plan and put together a presentation to pitch to companies to sponsor the club.

“Lastly, I wish to thank Phakisa Holdings for the investment they made in ERU over the past four years.

“The money spent on the club was an investment well spent. We have achieved high levels of performance, among others, won the Merlin League in 2015, and was runner-up consecutively in the Valke Peregrine League (2017 and 2018).”

No comment yet from Phakisa Holdings.
