Fake car dealer conns Daveyton man out of R66 000

In another incident In Plantation, on August 24, thieves forced their way into a residential property on Cedar Avenue and stole a TV set and tools while the homeowner was asleep.

Recently, a Daveyton man was reportedly conned with R66 000 by a con artist who led him to believe that he was a legit car dealer.

The victim told the police that on August 24 he saw an advert on OLX showing a Toyota Conquest that was on sale at a car dealer called Alcatel Motors, reportedly in Boksburg.

The unsuspecting man dialled the telephone number on the advert and then paid R1000 deposit for the car at the request of the conman.

On August 26 the conman phoned the buyer and asked him to deposit the outstanding amount of R65 000 so that he could be given a date to come and collect the car.

He deposited the amount and that was the last time he heard from the so-called car dealer. The victim tried to call the man but the phone rang unanswered.

He went to the address that was given by the salesman and discovered that there was no such car dealer operating at the address.
