Boksburg Football Club’s u-17 powers on with a 9-3 drubbing

The Blues are in away action this weekend

The Boksburg Football Club’s u-17 side picked up where they left off when they visited Bedfordview Country Club on August 18.

Coming into the ELFA League 1 encounter at a back of a record-setting 20-1 hiding of Springs Old Boys, the in-form Blues carried their rampant form over to Bedfordview as they played the hosts off their own turf in a 9-3 drubbing.

Half-time score was 1-0 in favour of the Blues.

Blues coach Ernest Seforo will also be encouraged by the fact that his side appears to be strong finishers.

Much like their historic performance against Old Boys, the Blues did most of the damage in the second half, outscoring the hapless hosts 8-3.

They have maintained their chance to be crowned champions, should they win at least 90 per cent of their remaining games.

In the Old Boys encounter, the Blues netted 17 times after finding the back of the net just three times in the opening half.

The Blues sit in fifth position on the log following the win, with three games in hand and 13 points adrift of pacesetters Sporting.

Man of the moment Bandile Mazibuko opened the scoring as early as the 12th minute to set the mood. But the visitors had to wait until the second stanza for more goals as Bedforview proved hard to break.

The Blues, however, were not to be denied any longer following the restart as Mazibuko netted a second-half hat-trick to finish with four goals – more than Bedfordview’s combined effort.

Shane Radebe scored a brace and the triumvirate of Zanda Linda, Thapelo Seforo and Kgothatso Gololo netted a goal each.

An impressed Blues coach said: “The boys made me very proud, I changed the formation in the second half to increase the attacking force after studying the game and it worked. We started converting our chances.

“Parents were also out in their numbers to support the boys. The team is really doing great and following the coach’s instructions.”
