New board elected at House of Mercy

Anyone who would like to donate may contact the director of the centre, Monica Mashiane, on 011 894 4050/2 or email info@houseofmercy.co.za

House of Mercy drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre has elected new board members for the 2019/20 period.

Belekazi Mbelle is the chairperson, Tony Riley deputy chairperson, Rhodean de Jager secretary and Kgomotso Makoro treasurer.

They will be supported by eight additional board members, most of whom are young people.

The Advertiser spoke to the new board about their plans for the centre.

Mbelle indicated that with the centre being in financial straits they have rolled out objectives and targets to raise funds for the organisation.

“We will revamp the centre’s website because we are aware that the majority of our patients are young people, so we want to reach them using social media,” said Mbelle.

“Our patients will now engage with or find information about the centre through our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. This will also help to brand and market the centre.”

Mbelle said sub- committees will be sent to various companies as well as the public at large to request donations to help keep the centre running.

She highlighted that substance abuse is a disease which is depriving not only families of loved ones, but also depriving the economy of a country with skilled human resources which industries and corporates have extensively invested in.

“Rehabilitation ensures that return on investment by industries and corporates is realised by all, if those who made the investments lend a hand in assisting patients through this intractable journey of sobriety,” Mbelle said.
