Taking a sporting stand against crime

Members from Colgate also attended to provide free dental screenings as well handing out free Colgate toothbrushes.

The Reiger Park SAPS Youth Desk, in conjunction with the Department of Social Development, Community Safety, Famsa, Ekurhuleni Health and Social Services, Ekurhuleni Disaster and Management Services, Reiger Park CPF and patrollers, hosted a sporting event to commemorate Youth Day.

The sports against crime event took place at JW Clement Stadium in Reiger Park recently.

About 700 youngsters and community members from Reiger Park, Ramaphosa, Delmore Park and Delmore Gardens took part in different sporting codes such as soccer, netball, cycling and the 2.5km fun run.

“We have noticed that the young ones have lost interest in sports so we are trying to divert their focus to sports activities in order to keep them away from crime. We also invited various coaches so that they can scout talent and recruit these children.”

Reiger Park SAPS station commander Lt Col Paul Mathebula also used the opportunity to urge the community to fight crime and he further raised concern about property crimes in the area.

Winning teams were awarded with trophies and lots of prizes were won.
