Funds needed to make local netball player’s dream come true

"I see myself in the next few years being part of the national team, the Spar Proteas,”

A Grade 12 learner at Windmill Park Secondary School, Sarah Malaka has been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent Ekurhuleni in the u-21 national netball championships at the University of Johannesburg netball courts from August 4 to 10.

However, due to her family not having money to pay for her trip, her dreams might be shattered.

The 21-year-old’s netball talent has been nurtured on the dusty netball court at Windmill Park from the tender age of 11.

“I have always liked netball. While I was still staying in Limpopo, I realised that I was good at netball because I was always selected to be part of the top teams.

“The sport helps me to stay fit and it keeps me away from bad company because I’m always preoccupied with netball practices,” she said.

Sarah said she was selected to be part of the Ekurhuleni u-21 team after she was scouted during a tournament she took part in in Atlasville last year.

The aspiring professional netball player highlighted that her seven-day trip will cost R5 000, which includes meals and accommodation.

“To be part of the Ekurhuleni u-21 team is a big deal for me and I believe taking part in the national championships at the University of Johannesburg will open doors for me.

To sponsor her trip, contact Amos Rangata, Windmill Park educator, on 083 483 5936.
