St Dom’s dominates once again at GMCA champs

A total of 23 drum majorette teams, 14 cheerleading teams and three tertiary teams competed for the title of Gauteng champions.

St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls hosted the Gauteng Majorette and Cheerleading Association (GMCA) Provincial Championships on May 25.

St Dominic’s Primary School team, nicknamed ‘Saintees’, and the high school team, ‘Saints’, competed on the day. Both teams were crowned champions and qualified for the nationals in East London at the end of June.

The Saintees are comprised of 52 girls, who are coached by Alish Venter, Jenna-Lee van Niekerk and Matthew Higgs. The squad is led by Asanda Nkuna and the team captain is Karabo Mahlangu.

The Saints have 80 members coached by Allan Donaldson. They are led by Katy Knell.

What made St Dom’s’ achievement more significant is the fact that the school competes in the top league (elite).

Drum majorettes is a Sascoc-approved sport.
