No serious crimes reported over Easter weekend in certain local police precincts

The most serious cases was when a man was robbed in his home on April 21.

According to information received from the Boksburg North SAPS and Dawn Park SAPS communications officers, serious crimes were not reported over the weekend, but police made many arrests for driving under the influence in Boksburg North.

The following crimes were reported to the Dawn Park SAPS and Boksburg North SAPS over the long weekend:

  • Dawn Park SAPS

According to Dawn Park communications officer Const Nkemeleng Mabula, a complainant alleged that on April 20 at about 3.30pm, she lent her 25-year-old boyfriend her car to go and meet his clients in Johannesburg.

“The complainant alleged that she became worried around midnight and she phoned her boyfriend and was told that he was still busy and she told him that he must bring back the car at 6am (April 21) the latest,” Mabula said.

Mabula said around 8.30am the complainant texted her boyfriend, but he did not respond.

Other arrests were as follows: dealing in dagga – one; assault GBH – three; contravening of protection order – one; driving under the influence – two; theft – one; use of vehicle without owner’s consent – one.

  • Boksburg SAPS

Nine suspects were arrested for driving under the influence and nine suspects were arrested for exceeding speed limits.

Boksburg North SAPS communications officer Const Justice Ramaube said a 38-year-old man was robbed in his home on April 21.

“The 38-year-old alleged that while he was asleep with his girlfriend, they heard a knock at the door. He then asked who it was and was called by his name and asked to open the door as they (suspects) claimed to be the police.”

The suspect said he peeped through the window when a torch light was shone on him and he was told to open the door.

“The complainant alleged that when he opened the door he saw three men, one armed with a gun and the other two each holding bolt cutters. A confrontation ensued and the suspects fled the scene on foot.”

The complainant sustained minor injuries.

“The suspects managed to take the victim’s wallet containing his personal bank cards and an amount of R1 500.”

A case of house robbery was opened at Boksburg North SAPS.

“We are appealing to the community to assist the police with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.”
