Five arrested for alleged assault and kidnapping

The SAPS are still looking for more suspects linked to the case.

The Reiger Park SAPS, together with the Ekurhuleni trio task team, made a breakthrough on the morning of February 28 when they arrested five suspects who allegedly kidnapped and assaulted a 23-year-old man.

The suspects are between the ages of 33 and 65 years.

According to the Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Const Jan Mokwana, the five suspects have allegedly been terrorising the community by taking the law into their own hands for the past few days.

Members of the community apparently failed to report them.

“However, this morning a complainant alleged he was assaulted and kept in a shack for two days by a group of men known to the community as the Reiger Park Community Forum.

“The group was initially responsible for guarding the cables in the area.”

Mokwana said the complainant alleged the group of men accused him of breaking into someone’s house.

“Around 9.45am this morning, police officers launched a manhunt which led to the arrest of five men who are allegedly part of the group. In two of the suspect’s houses, we found an unlicensed firearm and a pellet gun, respectively.”

According to Mokwana, the complainant took the police to the shack where he was kept for two days.

“When the police officers arrived at the shack they found a 21-year-old man tied and badly injured. He hasn’t opened a case yet because he is still in hospital.

“He is also accused of breaking into someone’s house,” Mokwana said.

The police are investigating a case of kidnapping and assault.
