Residents can still register at IEC offices to vote
Residents can call the Independent Electoral Commission on 0800 60 11 90 or SMS their ID numbers to 32810 (charged at R1) to get their registration status and their current voting station.
The City of Ekurhuleni urges all residents who are not registered but eligible to vote in the upcoming national elections to register at IEC offices in selected Ekurhuleni Customer Care Centres.
According to Themba Gadebe, though President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the date of the election as May 8, the date is yet to be gazzetted, and therefore, registration is not yet closed.
“Residents of Ekurhuleni who have not collected their IDs are also urged to visit Home Affairs to collect the IDs,” said Gadebe.
He said about 19 000 ID cards and bar coded ID copies remained uncollected in the Ekurhuleni Home Affairs offices.

Residents can also visit the IEC website www.elections.org.za to check their current registration details and voting station location.
“Those who have last registered in a different province from which they would wish to vote in, will not able to vote in the provincial elections unless they register to vote in their new province,” said Gadebe.
Residents can register to vote at the IEC offices situated in the following municipal offices: Kempton Park, Alberton, Springs, Brakpan, Benoni and Germiston.
