Water polo goalie receives SA team call-up

The squad will be competing at the Cana Zone IV Championships in Namibia between February 16 and 20.

St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls’ water polo goal keeper, Oluchi McMurray, is stationed to earn her first South African Schools team cap after being selected for the u-16 SA Schools’ water polo team.

She said: “I’m overjoyed to be chosen for the SA side, and very nervous as well. I’m really proud of myself and I think it shows that I’ve worked hard.

“This has to be at the top of my achievements list because my other achievements haven’t been as big as this one.”

McMurray’s selection was confirmed after nationals, which took place in December 2018, where her potential was spotted by scouts.

“I love the sport because I don’t have to hold back a lot, and I’m able to play with my friends,” she said.

“It’s a very social sport, you get to meet a lot of different people. The sport takes you to a lot of different places, which gives you a lot of opportunities.”

Windhoek will be the host city for the tournament.
