Reiger Park’s detective branch welcomes new commander and detectives

The Reiger Park police are urging residents to continue playing their part in making Reiger Park a much safer place to live in by reporting any suspicious activities to the police.

The Reiger Park SAPS has appointed a new commander of the station’s detective branch, and seven new detectives were appointed to help bolster the branch.

The new leader, Capt Glen James Whitford, filled the boots of the former head, Capt David Snell, who had been promoted to lieutenant colonel and now serve as a group commander of the detectives in Brakpan.

The new Reiger Park detective commander said although he is still working on becoming familiar with the township, his current job is nothing different to what he has been doing before.

He is from the Benoni detective branch and previously worked in the Robbery Unit in North Rand, at Crystal Park SAPS and Ivory Park SAPS.

In the past he dealt with serious and violent crimes and has vast experience in crime investigation.

The new Reiger Park detective commander is aiming to increase their conviction rate when it comes to drugs trade, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and murder.

The head is also planning to dismantle criminal gangs believed to be operating in his policing precinct.

Furthermore, Whitford said he looks to build on the previous success of his team he described as a dedicated, highly productive team with a strong sense of teamwork and the right mix of skills and experience.

Talking about the newly-appointed detectives, Whitford said he, along with the experienced members, will see to it that such members gain more skills and reign supreme in the fight against criminals.

Whitford echoed the words of the then head of the branch, saying the team had made major breakthroughs in a number of serious cases reported in the area.

They previously secured a number of good convictions in high profile criminal cases – including the April 1, 2017 kidnapping, rape and murder of 10-year-old Chrisania Carelse, of Ramaphosa.
