Tambo Babies’ team and volunteers enjoy an appreciation tea

Tambo Babies was launched by Deacon Barbara Morrison in 2013 when she heard the plight of newborn babies being discharged from hospitals wrapped in newspaper and bin bags.

The Tambo Babies Boksburg team, along with volunteers and sponsors of the project, were spoilt on December 1 at an appreciation tea.

Tina Moolman, who is part of the Tambo Babies initiative, hosted the tea at her house in Bartlett.

Those who attended shared stories and ideas about the outreaches.

“We deliver, on average, 60 hampers every second week, consisting of items to help mothers of newborn babies. These consist of basic clothing, blankets, baby wipes and other products to the mothers of the newborns.

“We are only able to this through the generous donations of the community, and with the help of church members and various organisations who hand out the hampers,” said Moolman.

The guests at the tea were full of hope and smiles.

“We are blessed to have many caring people in our communities who are willing to help us help our most vulnerable citizens – our newborn babies and their moms.”

According to Morrison, they also offer prayers and support for bereaved mothers in the maternity wards.

“The tea was about spoiling our sponsors and volunteers, and saying thank you for everything they did to help mothers and newborns.”

“We have handed out 2 808 hampers in 2018, so we should reach 3 000 by the end of the year. We will deliver our last hampers for the year on December 28.”
