Two police officers arrested in Boksburg for truck hijacking

The suspects face charges ranging from truck hijacking, possession of hijacked truck, defeating the ends of justice and driving the car without owners consent.

Two police officers and seven suspects have been arrested in the early hours of November 12 after they were found escorting a truck that was allegedly hijacked.

Police on routine patrol noticed a truck being escorted by three vehicles including a marked police car on the N12 Highway in Benoni.

According to the spokesperson for police in Gauteng, Captain Mavela Masondo, police kept a close observation on the vehicles and later intercepted them in Boksburg.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck full of groceries had been hijacked in Potchefstroom in the North West province.

” Management is equally appreciative that the criminals within its ranks have been exposed and arrested,” Masondo said.

Masondo highlighted that the two police, a captain and constable, are not police officers from the Boksburg precinct.

All nine suspects will appear in the Boksburg Magistrates Court.
