Christian Crises and Culture Centre project envisioned to start in 2019

It is planned for the centre to offer numerous facilities to assist in these areas of empowering the youth with the necessary skills.

After a delay, it is hoped that the development of the Christian Crises and Culture Centre, to be located in the centre of Boksburg, will kick off in early 2019.

The Christian Crisis and Culture Centre will exist through Tigadonné, a registered NPO.

“Our proposal is to build a community centre to enrich the communities throughout the metro,” managing director and chairperson of Tigadonné Heather Jacoby said.

The founding committee’s mission is to reach out to the community of Ekurhuleni through skills training, trauma counselling, creativity, culture and entrepreneurship.

“It is our goal to help members of the community who are currently unemployed to learn a skill in order to start their own businesses so they will be able to support their families,” Jacoby said.

The Advertiser previously reported on the proposed mini community city, estimated to cost R900-million, which will benefit the entire community of Ekurhuleni, no matter what their financial status may be.

“Our committee consists of 21 highly-qualified and committed individuals who are fully prepared for the task ahead,” said Jacoby.

“We will rely on private sponsorship to build the centre and thereafter it will become totally self-sustainable.

“We will be working with the 654 schools in Ekurhuleni enabling us to reach the children who need assistance, approximately 605 000 children.

“All the various departments in Ekurhuleni are involved in the project.”

Jacoby said currently the community carries a heavy burden of unemployment, crime and substance abuse. According to Jacoby, the youth are desperate because there is very little hope of them finding employment.

“We will also offer trauma counselling and even tackle all forms of substance abuse.”

Jacoby said they envision numerous sports and entertainment facilities, such as a skateboard rink, a rock-climbing wall and a gym to keep the youth off the streets.

“We plan to have large, fully equipped children’s indoor and outdoor play areas,” said Jacoby.

She said vegetable gardens and various other forms of farming will also be made available to the community.

“Our vision is to also enrich the community in body, mind and soul – bringing souls to our Lord through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“Our organisation is currently working with the youth leaders in Zonkizizwe and Tsakane in the hope of building a mini centre once the centre in Boksburg is up and running.

“We are encouraging the people of our community and companies to get involved to help us in enriching those who are really desperate.”
