Cook and Culture: Always something to be grateful for this silly season

It's silly season, functions and parties are hosted daily, money is tight and petrol prices are ridiculous. Luckily, there is always something to be grateful for and the Advertiser has a few small tips to make your life just a little bit easier and more exciting.

  • Digital

Something good to know, Pinterest: control + scroll wheel = makes pictures bigger.

Pro Tip – when using Whatsapp for business

To brand yourself in a classy and professional light, make sure your profile picture is a friendly yet tasteful photo of yourself. Avoid memes and photos of you having a tequila shot too many.

  • Party Plate

Having some unannounced guest over in this season of holiday and celebration? You can whip up a delicious platter without breaking the bank.

Arrange some of these ingredients on a platter and you will have your guest talking about your hosting skills for months: biltong, pretzel sticks, nuts, Camembert/Brie, grapes, figs, olives, apple slices, pomegranate, Melba toast, cherry tomatoes, guacamole, hummus and some micro herbs (to make it fancy).

  • Home Remedy

Activated charcoal is trending. What does it do? For under R30 at local pharmacies, activated charcoal can cure a hangover, help with nausea and diarrhoea, it can be used as a natural cleaner and body detox and is often used as a teeth whitening remedy. This is definitely a must-have.

Activated charcoal powder can be mixed with water and used to brush teeth helping you to have a whiter brighter smile
