READ THE FULL STORY IN THE ADVERTISER IN TOMORROW’S EDITION (OCTOBER 23)

Nombeko Thole, the mother of Richard Thole who fell into an abandoned mine shaft in the Jerusalem informal settlement last year February 25, is still longing to bury her son’s bones.

To alleviate some of her suffering, the Ekurhuleni metro recently handed over a new house to her.

The five-year-old Richard fell into a disused mine shaft in the informal settlement while playing with friends.

The Advertiser visited the family on October 11 at their new home in Chief Albert Luthuli, Daveyton.

Nombeko said she was happy with her new home but at the same time, her heart is not at ease because she knows she got the house through the death of her son.

The two-bedroom house was handed over by Human Settlements MMC Lesiba Mpya on October 10, to fulfil the promise made by mayor Mzwandile Masina last year to expedite the process of giving the family a decent house.
