Police are hunting a gang of armed robbers who held up a security guard in Boksburg East and ransacked an industrial property on Lonie Road, stealing R300 000 worth of goods.
According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Const Ntsako Ledwaba, the guard told police he was, at about 8pm on September 26, in the guardroom when the thugs, two of them carrying guns, pounced on him.
One of the robbers stayed behind and held the guard hostage in the guardroom while his accomplices raided the factory – stealing a computer, copper cables, a trailer and a high-priced cellphone.
The robbers fled the scene after the about 25-minute-long robbery ordeal, leaving the guard bound and gagged in the guardroom. He was rescued by workers when they arrived at about 5.30am.
Boksburg police are appealing to anyone with information to contact the crime office on 011 481 6859 or to send anonymous tip-offs to 32211.
