Residents fed up with illegal dumping

Illegal dumping is a common occurrence in Boksburg.

Residents of Dawn Park at Nyala Street have raised their concerns about illegal dumping at a nearby vacant field.

According to Nelly Dlamini Dube, the problem started in July when her neighbour dumped tree branches in the open field.

“We confronted the neighbour about this and the matter was dealt with. Ever since the incident, people from the area are now using the opportunity to also dump there,” Dube said.

Dube said this has caused the open field to be a hiding place for criminals and rats.

“We are just not safe anymore. One morning when I was driving out of my driveway, I saw a man hiding behind the rubble.I asked him what he was doing and he said he was just sitting there and eventually he left.”

“All we request is that the dump is removed and then a ‘no dumping sign’ should be placed in order to keep the place clean.”

The Advertiser is waiting for comment from the metro and councillor Bruce Reid.
