Too little too late for Blues

The Blues now face possible relegation to the Premier League.

A Wesley Vollmer strike halfway through the opening half helped the Boksburg Football Club defeat fellow league strugglers Zwide 1-0 in their Eastern Super League fixture at the Boksburg City Stadium on September 8.

The forward has been in fine form and has grabbed some crucial goals in the latter part of the campaign.

Despite another goal in their pre-ultimate clash of the campaign, it has done little to help his side who sit stone last on the log.

Ernest Seforo’s side has struggled to shake off their disappointingly slow start to the season, registering just five wins and two draws from their 24 outings.

Seforo has had to deal with multiple issues, including player unavailability, ill-discipline, and injuries to key players – to list a few.

With their last game now having taken place, a trip to Kempton Park for a dead rubber against the hosts, the Blues face possible relegation to the Premier League.

With Corinthians pulling out of the league after 13 games, Boksburg will wait to learn of their fate with the organising body yet to decide on a plan of action with some teams benefitting from playing Corinthians twice.

The Blues only played Corinthians on one occasion before they left the league.

But with two teams from the Super League being dropped and two teams from the Premier League being promoted, the Blues are still unlikely to survive the chop.

Elsewhere, at the business end of the table, Luso Africa was crowned as champions of the Super League with a game to spare. Luso is followed by Randburg, who’ve secured the runners-up spot.

Alberton completed the top three.

Luso and Randburg will proceed to play in the play-offs for a chance to feature in the higher Castle League.
