Almost 600 runners compete in Atlasville Parkrun

The launch of the parkrun was made possible following the resolution of a number of issues, which delayed the inaugural event by two weeks.

The first Atlasville Parkrun was held successfully in the Boksburg suburb alongside the Atlas Spruit on the chilly morning of August 18.

The parkrun attracted 587 runners and walkers to its debut event with Benoni Northerns Athletic Club’s stellar speedster Bright Mikolongwe claiming the first position in a time of 17 minutes and 25 seconds.

Melissa Jansen van Vuuren was the first woman parkrunner home in a time of 20 minutes and 59 seconds.

The 5km Atlasville Parkrun starts at 8am on Saturdays in Finch Street, Atlasville.
