R21 roadblock leads to 59 motorists paying outstanding fines on site

Warrants executed amounted to R21 000 and the paid outstanding fines totalled R30 000.

The EMPD’s Warrants Section mounted a roadblock between 9am and 2pm on the R21 southbound just before the North Rand Road intersection on Sunday, July 29.

“Twenty-six motorists with warrants for unpaid traffic fines were compelled to pay the original fine plus R300 for failing to appear in court to contest the fines,” said Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson.

“They were afforded an opportunity to phone relatives to pay on site to avoid arrest.”

He said 59 other motorists with fines for which they still had time to settle decided to pay on the spot.

“Motorists are reminded that there exist numerous convenient ways created by the metro to pay their traffic fines and they should utilize them to avoid arrestation. The EMPD will continue to conduct these operations to force compliance. ”
