Dawn Park production strikes gold again, this time at Germany’s Film Festival

Thesha (street slang for “work”) also won in the Best International Web Series category at the Vancouver Web Fest in Canada from April 19 to 21.

Locally produced film and web series Thesha bagged yet another award at the Die Seriale Festival held in Giessen, Germany from June 8 to 10.

Izigigaba Advertising and Communications’ Ziggy Ravuku and Lungelo Mdlalose represented the group at the international stage in Germany.

The duo didn’t come home empty handed, they came back with the Best Supporting Actress award.

Up and coming supporting actress, Nozuko Nkosiyane, whose talent was spotted miles away from home, expressed her excitement.

“I didn’t really think the award would come to me. After seeing the other nominees in my category, I didn’t think I would get it.

“I’ve never had an opportunity of holding an award before, let alone receiving it. I’m thankful to God for the opportunity Thesha gave me. It was through Thesha that I got to see my full potential.”

According to Ravuku, the award came as a surprise because they were facing ‘top dogs’ in the film industry, however, they managed to win through.

Ravuku also sang the praises of the aspiring actress and said Nkosiyane’s performance stood out at the festival.

“She has a natural talent with a lot of screen charisma, so it’s hard to forget her once you see her. Her character is the heart of our story.”

Ravuku said the production is still on a world tour and they are looking forward to the upcoming screening this month at the Zanzibar Film Festival.

“The film festival will have its first web series competition being part of the festival this year and we are excited to be the first production to compete in this category.

“In August, we have two screenings in New York at the Hip Hop Film Festival and Seoul Web Festival in South Korea,” Ravuku said.

The 10-episode web series Thesha is based on the story of two best friends, unsure about their future, who set out to carve their own paths by seeking to make it big in the music industry.
