No further arrests as the Hawks investigate CIT bombing in Boksburg

There has been no confirmation from the police regarding reports that two more suspects were arrested or that one of the suspects is a police officer.

No other suspects have been arrested following a cash-in-transit robbery that took place yesterday, May 17 along corner North Rand and Atlas Roads.

This is according to Captain Mavela Masondo of the Gauteng Provincial SAPS, who said the case is now being investigated by the Hawks.

Masondo said he also couldn’t confirm reports that one of the suspects is a police officer.

More than 10 suspects, driving in four vehicles, targeted two G4S yesterday, May 17.

“A shootout ensued between the G4S security officers and the suspects,” said Masondo.

“The suspects bombed the two G4S vehicles and they took some of the money from the cash vehicles and fled the scene. The police reacted and gave chase, which ended at George Koch Hostel where they arrested the five suspects.

“Two G4S security guards were injured. One was shot in the leg and the other sustained minor injuries.”
