Boksburg has a ‘superhero’ of its own

This captain in the SAPS also has a passion to photograph weddings, matric dances, nature and sporting events.

Capt Juanita Coetzer is a regular name in the Advertiser.

As communications officer at Boksburg North SAPS, she is closely involved in the community. Her face and name is no stranger to our readers.

But who is the woman behind the uniform?

Although her position in the SAPS requires her to think fast, respond faster and be strong and rigid, Coetzer is a gentle person who always welcomes the members of the community into her office with a warm smile.

She has an open door policy and puts the community’s needs before her own.

Coetzer grew up in Worcester in the Western Cape. She was motivated to join the SAPS because she always had the dream to serve and protect the community.

She has been in the police force for the last 30 years and has stayed in Boksburg for more than 20 of those years. Coetzer has experience in several law enforcement units, including the dog unit as explosives handler, along with visible policing and crime prevention.

“The job does not come without challenges and personally I had to work hard to keep and maintain a balanced life in this line of work.”

Coetzer is a skilled photographer and also does woodwork in her spare time. She takes pictures of crime scenes, evidence and work-related events.

“In my spare time, I enjoy the company of my close friends and my dogs, of course.”

Her family all live in the Cape province, but she spoils her two dogs who are her confidants.

Coetzer works with young people on a regular basis, with anti-bullying projects at local schools. Young learners who experience problems at home or school are in her office daily, where she patiently listens to their concerns and issues, giving advice and guidance and serious warnings where necessary.

She advises the young people in Boksburg with big dreams to always believe in God.“Through God everything is possible. If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.”

Coetzer’s office is filled with her favourite colour which is blue, along with photographs, and her favourite superhero, Spiderman.

Her colleagues would drop by her office for a friendly hello and an offering from her sweet jar.

Coetzer may offer treats, have a warm and spontaneous personality, but she does not mess around when it comes to her job as a policewoman.

She remains focused on protecting the community of Boksburg and is definitely a local Boksburg ‘superhero’.
