Atlasville community shows it cares about its spruit

Pack and Wrap sponsored black refuse bags and gloves.

The Atlasville community rolled up their sleeves to clean up the area at the Atlasville Spruit on April 21.

The clean-up was initiated by Rawson Properties and supported by Ward 23 councillor André du Plessis, CPF patrollers and community members.

Du Plessis thanked Rawson for taking the initiative of cleaning up this precious environmental resource in Atlasville.

“Thank you to all who participated so enthusiastically and also gave so unselfishly of their time on a Saturday.

“It just goes to show that if communities work together then we can make the important differences that count,” du Plessis said.

Community members from Atlasville with employees from Rawson Properties, CPF patrollers and Ward 23 councillor André du Plessis participated in a clean-up of the Atlasville Spruit on April 21.

CPF patroller Craig Reichert, who spread the message about the clean-up on the Atlasville Organisation Facebook page to encourage people to attend, said he was motivated to take part in the clean-up initiative due to his love for animals.

“I’m a huge animal lover so seeing the park polluted broke my heart because animals are also entitled to a clean environmentally friendly area,” he said.

Jackie de Vries, Rawson principal, said: “As a local company we believe in a clean environment and that’s why we thought it important to be part of this initiative.”

Du Plessis deemed the effort a success and added that another clean-up will take place in winter.

“I’ll organise gumboots for this clean-up so that we can get into the reeds to clean.

“We’d like to thank the Boksburg Solid Waste Management Department for providing skips for the waste collected today,” du Plessis said.
