Fishermen open fire on security guards at Bardene dam

Firearms were confiscated on the scene and a case of attempted murdered has been opened.

Boksburg North police are investigating a case of attempted murder following a shooting at the dam on the corner of Yaldwyn and Springbok roads, Bardene, in the early hours of this morning (April 16).

According to police spokesperson Captain Juanita Coetzer, two men were fishing and camping at the dam when they were approached by officers from a local security company.

The security officers apparently alerted the men to who they were but as they approached the tent one of the men fired a shot towards the water.

The security officers then returned fire.

One of the fishermen and one of the security officers were injured during the incident.

The fishermen then both ran towards the N12 freeway where they found assistance and one of them phoned his father, who took him to hospital. The other man was taken back to the scene.

By this time the security officers had phoned 10111 for assistance. The injured security officer was transported to hospital.

No arrests have yet been made.

“More charges could be laid as investigations continue,” said Coetzer.
