BCC skipper leads a superb team

Forbes put 123 runs on the board, his second ton in as many weeks.

Boksburg Cricket Club captain Adam Forbes lead his side to a blowout 191-run victory in their Eastern Cricket Premier League II clash against Springs Old Boys at Prince George Park on March 4.

Having won the pre-match toss against his opposite Johan Maritz, the skipper opened with Bryce Parsons before he produced a gem of an innings – a classic batting demonstration that put the home side out of sight.

Having had to wait for five years before his first century in Premier League cricket on February 25 against Duduza, the skipper carried over his momentum which sparked a firm collective batting display from the PG Park outfit as they amounted 285 runs in their 50 overs.

Forbes said: “Always feels good when you get a milestone back to back, but feels even better knowing I’m doing it for my team.”

The charismatic skipper added: “I’ve always been getting starts, I just lose concentration so I always remind myself to be patient and take my time – the runs will come and luckily they have been.”

Jordan Hollard (unbeaten 10) and Shawn Schaper (unbeaten one) occupied the crease for Boksburg when they finished one of their better batting innings.

Wicket-keeper Kane Horwell (37), Parsons (32) and Ahkter Rasul (26) were the other significant contributors with the willow for the winning side.

All but defeated and demoralised before attempting to chase down the daunting target, the visitors folded in front of Boksburg’s brilliance.

Middle order hitter Alex Rudolph, who was among the candidates that congratulated Forbes when he reached his milestone, finished as his side’s top scorer with 28 on the board.

Four duck dismissals summed up Old Boys’ afternoon with all of JJ Coetzee, Johan Oberholzer, Ashton Rudolph and skipper Maritz going back to the shelter without contributions.

Boksburg pair Nathan Kruger and Parsons were also brilliant with the leather – all but dismissing the entire Old Boys batting order between them with the former enjoying an outing of 4/37 and a single maiden and the latter of 4/17; 1 inside 10 overs respectively. – @SabeloBoksburg
