Robbers hit Pep store in Sunward Park again

A staff member was confronted by two suspects moments after opening the shop.

Robbers again hit the Pep store at Sunward Park Lifestyle Centre on February 24, making off with an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones.

To conceal their criminal activity, the gang this time went so far as to bring along a female accomplice donning a fake Pep shirt and stationed her at the door to prevent customers from entering.

She reportedly deceived those who wanted to enter the store into believing that the store was still closed because staff members were in a meeting.

According to Sergeant Cebisa Maseko, spokesperson for Boksburg police, a staff member was confronted by two suspects moments after opening the shop, at about 8am.

The employee noticed the suspects resembled the same men who had robbed the store in November last year.

The staff member reportedly tried to escape but one of the robbers immediately took out a firearm and aimed it at him.

More accomplices joined in and proceeded to the cash register where they helped themselves to cash. They also stuffed new cellphones into bags and fled the scene with their loot.

  • November robbery

During the November 25 robbery at the store, a group of armed thugs held staff at gunpoint and stole 380 cellphones and a substantial amount of money.

According to Maseko, the robbers reportedly entered the store pretending to be customers, before suddenly producing firearms and demanding money.

Police are investigating both business robbery cases and no arrests have been made yet. -@MthuphaFanie
