Gagiano too hot for Boksburg to handle

Alberton proved dominant, just needing 30 overs of batting to complete the win

On an afternoon where Boksburg Cricket Club captain Adam Forbes showed a big improvement with the bat, it wasn’t enough against a clinical Alberton outfit on Sunday, January 28.

Forbes scored 34, Boksburg’s highest individual score on the day, before the home side stormed back in the second innings to overhaul the 166-run target and claim a seven-wicket bonus point win.

Forbes’ top order partner Chris Opperman added 33, while Braydan Schaper and Calvin Birnie scored 23 apiece in an underwhelming performance from the Boksburg batting order.

However, the same can’t be said about the home side’s batsmen, who simply took over the match.

Opener JC Maritz took a hat-trick of wickets to finish with 3/42 in 10 overs of bowling. Maritz’ fellow opener AD Gagiano was the star of the day, finishing with 2/57 including a single maiden.

Gagiano then completed a clinical all-round performance, racking up 91 runs to put smiles on the faces of his side’s middle and bottom order strikers.

Eben Koekemoer added 44, and Gagiono and Kaylor Schleblisch (6) finished unbeaten to end the contest in just 30 overs.

Alberton skipper Matthew Arnold also impressed with the leather, taking 2/9 with one maiden in five overs, while Ryan Cartwright bagged 2/28 including two maidens in nine overs.

The visitors were bowled out for 165 in 49.5 overs. Alberton ended with 166 on the board. – @SabeloBoksburg
