Derby preview: CBC to clash with Boksburg in mouthwatering encounter

It is going to be a battle of mindsets

Local cricket fans can look forward to some entertaining club cricket action as Boksburg Eastern Cricket Premier League rivals and neighbours clash this Sunday (February 4) from 9am.

CBC Old Boys will host Adam Forbes’ Boksburg with the sought after top eight spots on the line.

The build-up to the derby, the first of the season, has been heightened by both side’s most recent forms – with both sets of teams coming in at the back of convincing bonus-point wins.

CBC cruised past their namesakes Springs Old Boys at home in a seven-wicket victory which saw a successful chase led by Sherwin Pillay’s undefeated 64.

Boksburg was also impressive against a hapless Tembisa outfit which felt the wrath of Bryce Parsons’ brilliance with the willow.

The young and exciting striker smashed and stroked everything that came his way en route to a brilliant 169 to help his side blitz to a 115-run win.

Should the derby nerves not prevent both side’s form from spilling over the big match, then Boksburg is in for a cricketing treat – like Boksburg captain Forbes pointed out.

“It’s going to come down to both teams’ mindsets: the team which rocks up on the day and does all their disciplines correctly will win.

“We have all to play for; it’s going to be a good one.”

Forbes’ opposite number Casey Arnold echoed the sentiments.

“It’s a big one, it’s a must win and we’re looking forward to Boksburg.

“It’s a crunch game because the top eight spot is up for grabs.”

Asked what will be the difference between a win and a loss, the CBC skipper continued: “How we cope with their execution is in our plan but I still think that traditionally CBC has the edge over Boksburg.”

Both sides have an extra boost from good medical reports.

The only absentee comes from CBC with Matthew Wright still recovering from an Achilles injury.
